If you are interested in having a home automation security system in your home, why not dream big? Most people begin by thinking they would like to have their security system automated, and then they realize how many systems in their homes can be automated and they start adding things to their “should be automated” list. Make a list of all the systems that could become automatically controlled through a software package that also controls your security system. The list might look like following list.
Home security system
Exterior and interior lights
Blinds on windows
Home theater system
Air conditioning Furnace
Temperature controls in different zones of the house
Doors Appliances such as the dishwasher
If you’re buying into home automation security, then it is security you’re after. In addition to security, you can add some convenience to your life. One of the most time saving and money saving areas of home automation is in setting temperature controls for your home. You can set the thermostat to different temperatures for different zones of your house. For example, if you or some of your family members are absent from the home for several hours a day due to school or work, you can set the thermostat higher or lower to cut costs on keeping empty rooms extra cool or extra warm and cozy.
Another example of thermostat control is to set the zone around the entrances to your home a few degrees warmer or cooler (depending on the season) to save the furnace or air conditioner from kicking on every time you answer the door or let the dog out. If you are on your way home, you can have your home automation security system disarm the alarms when you drive up and cool or heat your home a few degrees so that it is to your liking when you arrive.
As you consider the advantages to home automation security, keep remote controls in mind. You will want to be able to disarm your alarm system prior to entering your home. Many home security systems have option as to disarming your home when you are away, so that you can let in your cleaning lady or your neighbor when you are away from home.
Pre-sets on your home automation software are great benefits. These allow you additional options. Some of these may include a weekday setting which adheres to your work or children’s school schedule and a weekend setting that often has less rigid schedules. Another option on many systems is the vacation setting. This setting will evaluate your regular schedule and replicate it so that your lights will turn on when they normally turn on, thus hiding the fact that you are not home as usual. Many people really appreciate the vacation setting.
The greatest benefit to home automation security is the instantaneous connection with emergency personnel. If you need help, you can get it immediately. That peace of mind is what many people are after when they purchase home security systems. The automation of these systems has evolved into something that can make many aspects of your life easier.
